There are a lot of bad BBQ sauces out there folks, and we certainly have tasted many of them! These were the ones that Larissa and Val fell in love with at the Fancy Food Show. And, on top of that, they are made in Virginia and have no artificial ingredients, colorants etc. Their flavor stays but does not overtake whatever you are grilling. We will have an original summer Pinto bean dish executed by Val Lishack with recipe handouts. It will be perfect for picnics, dining on the deck and with eggs the next morning.

The good doctors (they are retired orthopedic surgeons, honest) sent us their Original-nice horseradish backbone, a Sweet & Spicy-with a surprising zingy and light fruity finish, and Larissa & Nancy’s favorite, called Brazen Heat

Tasting is from 11-4pm and you get 20% off on any of the sauces. Can’t make it, no worries, the discount will be online as well.

BEGINNERS’ COOKIE DECORATING CLASS WITH KATRINA TINES & A THEME

Cookie decorating with Katrina and Val by your side is an awesome experience. Many of her students have asked if a themed decorating class could be designed so that they could expand their techniques.

Katrina has picked the Princess Tea Party Cookie Cutter Set and will teach beginner techniques and new ideas for you to do at home with these designs. The set has all sorts of possibilities with its Unicorn, Castle, Crown, Slipper, Magic Wand, Ball Gown, Bodacious Ring and, of course a little Green Frog cutter.

This class is designed to cover some beginning techniques and some more advanced ones, but Katrina and Val will work with each of you.

As a bonus, each student gets a bag of useful tools to take home plus a box of their decorated cookies. Some of the goodies include meringue powder, disposable bags, squeeze bottles, the Princess cutter set, and assorted gel paste food colors. Plus Val has picked out the tips you’ll need at home after class. Making cookies for birthdays, school events, bridal showers or just a dream party will be so easy for you after this class.

CAMARGUE BLACK RICE & SALMON SALAD

Just in time for al fresco dining, we are featuring a dramatic Camargue black rice salad combined with salmon, Terre de Provence Camargue Extra Virgin Olive Oil and Fusion White Verjus. This naturally colored black rice grown by SARL Benoit in this fabled area, has its roots in Chinese rice cultivation. . It has been grown in the Camargue since 1854 and its production is rigorously controlled by the cultivators, much more so than in Asia. The ebony color is maintained even after cooked, and the taste is similar to freshly baked bread

OOH LA LA! JULIA’S FRENCH LENTIL SALAD

A few years ago when we visited our chocolatier friends in France, Julia Cuvy served this lovely salad on our first day as part of our welcome lunch. It is healthy, light and delicious on the first day, and only gets more flavorful with time. This recipe makes a rather large portion, but we enjoyed the leftovers on at least two subsequent picnics. The lentils are grown in Idaho by Zursun from Le Puy seed stock. We will have a recipe handout and it is available online under Cuisinette recipes on our site. The recipe includes Vann’s bay leaves andwhole cloves, Martin Pouret”s Red Wine Vinegar, and the Salute Grapeseed Oil (a must)

BEST BEGINNER COOKIE DECORATING CLASS WITH KATRINA TINES

Katrina Tines creates gorgeous custom cookies, as you can see from the photo here. Katrina and Val will instruct six participants on basic decorating techniques including: flow, dragging and general use of the various types of royal icing. They will also train the class on mixing icing correctly (a major bugaboo for beginners), filling piping bags and using different tips.

This class is specifically designed for people who want to decorate cookies but have had little or no training in how to go about it successfully. Katrina and Val will work with each one of you individually on your cookie designs.

As a bonus, each student gets a bag of useful tools to take home plus a box of their decorated cookies.
