About the Shop Owner
Toni Henderson moved to the DC area in 2006. After working and living here for a few years she realized two things – First, the nine to five world was not really her cup of tea and secondly, the area needed a fresh consignment option that catered to busy, young and fashionable women on a budget. Henderson grew up helping out at her mother’s consignment store in Minneapolis, MN. She had shopped at countless other consignment stores over the years and was full of ideas and enthusiasm. A clean boutique atmosphere, an easy consignment process, an organized shopping layout, and only the best brands… in Mint Condition! Henderson began brainstorming and gathering gently used pieces from her friends and colleagues closets on racks set up in her living room. After months of planning and preparation, Henderson went for it and left her job in legal marketing.
Mint Condition opened its doors on June 11, 2009. Old Town embraced the little shop and it has since grown to have countless loyal customers and over 1,500 consignors. Mint Condition has been named the DC metro’s “Best Consignment Store” by readers of Washingtonian magazine, the Washington Post Express, and Virginia Living magazine, as well as included multiple times in the “Best of Old Town” annual editorial section of Washingtonian magazine. Mint Condition expanded this year into a bigger location on S. Saint Asaph Street.
Henderson was born in Minneapolis, MN. She graduated with honors from the College of Charleston in South Carolina, where someday she and Petie (resident shop dog/official greeter) hope to open another Mint Condition location.
