Alexandria Restaurant Week: Where to Dine

This Friday kicks off the 2017 winter edition of Alexandria Restaurant Week. For 10 days, diners are invited to satisfy their hunger at 70 restaurants in all Alexandria neighborhoods, including Old Town. It’s a time for local chefs to shine, and for folks to visit old favorites and discover new gems. Browse through the online list and you will find a range of options from delicious casual like Burger Fi, to fine dining at Restaurant Eve, plus cuisines from all over the world.

For just $35, you can get a three-course dinner for one, or a $35 dinner for two. Plus, 30 restaurants will offer lunch deals at $10, $15 or $20 per person. And the menus are fabulous. Since I spend my days in Old Town, I tend to take advantage of the lunch specials. Virtue Feed & Grain is at the top of my list. Their take on a classic Reuben is mouth-watering, but I’m all in for the Peanut Butter & Chocolate Icebox Pie. Of course I will have to make my way over to a la Lucia. Thanks to the high recommendation from La Cuisine, I am now well-versed in the homemade pasta dishes and excellent wine list that are particularly cozy on a winter day. I also look forward to sampling The Majestic’s version of my favorite comfort food—a grilled cheese and tomato soup starter. Add in a creamy entrée of Gnocchi, and you will find one happy diner. And I just cannot make it through Restaurant Week without a stop at Vermillion. Eating lunch there is a treat and I love that they have options if I’m feeling like eating light or wanting to indulge in something a bit more decadent—the Banana Key Lime Custard has my name all over it.

Long story short, there are too many tempting stops on the list to make it into one week of dining. However, you can rest assured that no matter your pick, you will get an amazing deal and an even better meal. Bon appétit!
